  • Lucy's Charming Gesture

When 8 year old Lucy Redmond heard that The Little Princess Trust needed real hair to make wigs for children undergoing major cancer treatment she decided to become a donor. This was a big decision for Lucy as her beautiful hair had been trimmed, but never shortened since birth. It was so long she was able to sit on it.

At the hairdressers Lucy braveley watched as a whopping 40cm was cut off her hair and carefully packaged ready for dispatch. But Lucy didn't stop there; being the eldest daughter of Emily Redmond, who founded CHARM in 2003, Lucy saw the opportunity to maximise the benefits of her efforts. By securing more than 40 sponsors Lucy raised over £600, which was donated to CHARM.

An incredible effort by young Lucy Redmond to have such a significant impact on two important and deserving charities.

  • Meeting with NE Derbyshire Diocese

Emily Redmond, our charity chair along with trustees Eric Nicholas and Jonathan Lang have had a hugely encouraging meeting with two members of the Diocese of Derby.

We were joind by Rev Karen Hamblin, Area Dean of NE Derbyshire and Jo Crawshaw-Moore, NE Derbyshire administrator, who listened with understanding and offered encouragement that they would do what they could to share the news of our work across the diocese.

Since the meeting we have received an update from Karen and Jo saying that they will place an article in the diocese quarterly newsletter which goes to clergy and Deanery Synod members. Some churches also share it more widely with their congregations. The next issue is published in November.

We thank Karen and Jo for the time they spent with us and for recognising that CHARM, a local charity, is achieving great reults in Malawi. We are greatly encouraged to be opening up this new line of communication.
