The project was founded in 2003 by Emily Clarke, someone who had a desire to help people in Africa have a better life. Malawi was chosen as it is one of the poorest countries in the world. The average family lives on £15 per month which is barely enough to feed the family, let alone clothe and educate them.
CHARM was set up to help these people to help themselves. There are many charities out there that provide food and clothes, but few that provide something sustainable. The idea of CHARM is that after we have trained them and they have paid back their loan, they will continue to prosper and develop their business.
