Who we are

Our
Mission & Values

Established in 2003 in Chesterfield, UK, CHARM serves the people of the Mulanje area of Malawi. CHARM started through a vision and desire to help the poorest of the poor to help themselves and their families to lead a better life.

The majority of people in the rural areas in Malawi do not have jobs and struggle to feed themselves and their families.  The aim of CHARM is to assist these families to gain a sustainable source of income.

Our primary purpose was to distribute microloans to enable groups of people to set up their own business.   We now offer a range of projects, including carpentry, tailoring and metal fabrication. We also sell solar lights to villagers to encourage them to stop using dangerous kerosene as a fuel. Through the loans and training offered we have helped hundreds of Malawians to help themselves and their families to lead a better life.

The biggest barrier to prosperity in Malawi is the lack of employment.  We are trying to tackle this by training and then supporting people to either create their own business or gain employment. If a person can earn an income they are less reliant on handouts and are better able to support their families.

In all we do, our main aim is to help the people of Malawi to help themselves.

At CHARM we aim to maintain our existing projects while developing new services.  We will increase the range of projects and staffing levels, depending on need, viability and funding. We will try to cover as much of the Mulanje area as possible to allow the optimum number of Malawians to be assisted.
